Making a movie is one thing and releasing it is another difficult issue. So many movies struggle to much to make it to theatres. Be it financial issues, theatre findings, production issues they face too many hurdles to make their movie screen in a theatre. Vishal starrer Kathakali is one such movie which is finally releasing after so many delays into theaters, which is directed by Pandiraj with Catherine Tresa in female lead produced by Vishal under his Vishal Film Factory. It was released in Tamil before and earned decent reviews from critics and audience as well. Let’s see how it works on us.

Story:

Kamal aka Kamalakar Reddy (Vishal) returns from USA to marry his love interest Malliswari (Catherine Tresa). He goes to all his friends houses to invite them to his marriage. During these visits his love story is revealed. Malliswari (Catherine Tresa) and Kamal (Vishal) falls in love through a wrong phone call. He goes to USA due to certain problems and comes to India to marry her. Sambasivudu (Madhusudhan Rao) is the president of Fishers Association, Kakinada. Kamal’s family has some major problems with him. One day Kamal shows his anger on Sambasivudu when he is with his friends. Finally, Sambasivudu is brutally murdered and the blame comes on Kamal and his brother. Who are the culprits behind the murder?? What is the problem between Kamal and Samba?? forms rest of the story.

Actor’s  Performance:

Vishal as Kamal aka Kamalakar Reddy is decent. He seems regular in his roles. He is well as a innocent guy who goes with the situations. Catherine Tresa as Malliswari is good. As we have been seeing heroines don’t get much scope to prove their potent in action movies, this movie is not an exception. Mime Gopi as Vishal’s brother is good. Shatru is good fit for his role Jayaprakash as a powerful businessman is good. Karunas is good in his comic role. Lakshmi Ramakrishnan is nice. Sreejith Ravi as Harish Chandra is super fit for his role. He comes in the second half and does his part well. All other actors has done well.

Analysis:

Plot of the story is good. Story is written well. Screenplay is good. It is engaging throughout the movie with love track as an exception. Dialogues are good. Love track between leads is so crap and it should have been written better. Intro of Sambasivudu and his opposition with a voice over is the beginning of the movie. This half is filled with Intro of all the characters and love track between Vishal and Catherine Tresa which is so crap. It neither has the intense love nor emotion. It is ended with murder of Sambasivudu where Kamal and his brother are fixed for the murder. It ends in so interesting way creating so much curiosity of what’s really happening. Second half begins with so much melodramatic scenes. It run on the base of Harish Chandra trying to arrest Kamal and close the case as wife of Samba is opposing to cremate Samba’s dead body. National award winning director Pandiraj as done good job with this movie.

Technical Aspects:

Songs composed by Hip Hop Tamizha are ignorable. Background score is nice. It elevates film to a decent level. Cinematography by Balasubrahmaniam is excellent. He showed movie in a realistic way. Visuals are fantastic. Editing is good. Action part is well composed. Production values are nice.

Plus Points:
  1. Vishal
  2. Screenplay by Pandiraj
  3. Cinematography by Balasubrahmaniam
  4. Background Score

Minus Points:
  1. Love track between Vishal and Catherine Tresa
  2. Songs
